Hi families,
I hope everyone had a fantastic week and has an amazing weekend ahead!
At School:
In Math: We finished up our Time unit and started working on multiplication again. We reviewed multiplication facts and strategies and students were introduced to multiplying 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. Students will be learning 4 different strategies to do this in the next couple weeks. This week we focused on using repeated addition to multiply. We are strongly encouraging students to practice their basic multiplication facts at home so they are prepared for what's ahead in math (multiplying and dividing large numbers).
*Keep an eye out for your child's Time Unit Assessment which will be sent home next week.
In Literacy: We continued practicing writing paragraphs including a topic sentence, supporting details and a concluding sentence. Students created a paragraph explaining how to make a new friend and they wrote a paragraph on where their dream vacation would be and why. Next week, we will focus on adding more details to our paragraphs. Please continue to have your child practice their reading skills at home to improve their reading fluency and expression.
In Word Work: We focused on the prefix -auto and learned about similes and homophones. The spelling words for next week are: biography, biology, biome, biosphere, biofuel, biotic, biomass, biopsy, carry, interrupt, narrow, terrify, current, terror, account, occur, soccer, occasion, accident, accept

Messages From School:
Registration for 2025-26
Kindergarten registration for the 2025-26 school year has begun.
Please go to the CBE registration link to register for kindergarten. Registrations are completed online.
Kindergarten at MTS is a half-day program. At the time of registration, you will be asked to indicate a preference for a morning or afternoon class. Your preference will be considered when we assign students to a class in our spring organization and staffing process. Every attempt will be made to honor parent requests while recognizing the organizational needs of the school. All registrations received by March 1, 2025 will be considered equally – registrations are not numbered or ordered in terms of registration date. If a lottery is needed for determining AM or PM, students who already have siblings at our school will have first choice. Any families registering after March 1, 2025 will be placed in the program with lower numbers.
If you have a student who is starting in grades 1-4, registration is also open for 2025-26.
***Please note, any students who are currently in a classroom, will automatically roll over to the next grade. There is no need to re-register.
