February 24-27

We had an amazing time at the Be Brave Hitmen Game on Wednesday! It was such a fun day full of so much energy and excitement and the Calgary Hitmen defeated the Swift Current Broncos 3-0 (which you've likely already heard about). Here are a few pictures from the day. Stay tuned - more photos will be shared on Google Classroom soon!

At School:

In Wellness: We began learning about the Zones of Regulation and discussed what regulation means and how we can regulate lots of different things within ourselves, including our feelings and behaviours. We also talked about how regulating our emotions, energy, and actions can be challenging and how we will continue to learn and practice these skills throughout our lives.

In Math: We continued practicing personal strategies for multiplication and division of large numbers. Students also learned how to estimate to check the reasonableness of a product or quotient.

In Literacy: We have started a new novel study with Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. We explored the book's genre and point of view. We also took notes on the main characters, setting, and events in Chapter 1.

In Science: Students were introduced to key terms in our space unit—space, universe, and galaxy—and created illustrations to represent each concept.

In Social Studies: We held our first sharing circle! We also discussed various methods used by First Nations to hunt and harvest buffalo.

**Even though February is Kindness Month and we've had many conversations about the importance of being kind, I've been hearing reports of students using unkind and hurtful language towards others. I kindly ask families to reinforce the value of kindness at home and remind your child that making hurtful comments - especially about someone's appearance - is not acceptable. Thank you for your support in fostering a positive and respectful environment here at school.

Looking Forward:

-Next week's word work words are: interact, interface, interlock, interval, interject, interpret, interview, intern, intervene, paint, ailment, gained, afraid, maintain, sustain, retain, remain, available, complain, repair

-Our Multiplication and Division unit test will be on Monday, March 10th. If you'd like your child to have additional practice at home, please email me, and I will provide extra homework along with information on the strategies we've been practicing.
