March 17-20

  At School: In Math:  We worked on finding the area of complex shapes using square units and created our own shapes with specific areas. Additionally, we also used the computer to practice tiling and calculating the area of various shapes.  In Literacy:  Students responded to the writing prompt, "Do video games have a positive or negative impact?" by writing a paragraph that stated their opinion and included supporting reasons and examples. In Science:  The AstroDome Planetarium visit our school, providing students with a deeper understand of space and constellations in the night sky.  In Art:  We designed shamrocks with various line patterns and painted them using watercolors. Looking Forward: Students came home yesterday with a folder with some work in it. Please have your child return the folder on March 31. You can keep all the work that was sent home in it. Upcoming Dates Happy Spring Break! School will resume on Monday, March 31.  April 18...

At School: In Literacy:  Students were asked to share their favorite school subject and wrote an opinion paragraph explaining their choice and reasoning. They learned how to organize their paragraphs and include detailed examples to back up and support their ideas.  In Word Work:  We focused on words that have suffix -ent and -ant. Also, we discussed the meaning of exact and near synonyms and analyzed texts to find examples of each. In Math:  We started a new unit on Measurement. Students will learn how to interpret and express Area of shapes.  In Social Studies:  After learning about the cultural significance of story robes to First Nations people, students designed and created their own. They will share their story with the class next week!  Looking Forward: On Tuesday, March 18th the AstroDome Planetarium will be at our school! At School: In Math:  We continued to work on estimation and learned how to problem solve multiplcation and division word problems using R.I.C.E. Ask your child what R.I.C.E stands for! In Literacy:  We read Chapter 2 of Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing  and explored the meaning of the word "tale".   We determined that Peter Hatcher is the narrator, sharing the tales of  his  own  life. Students were also introduced to Opinion Writing.  In Word Work: We focused on words that have the prefix "inter".  In Social Studies :  We discussed the importance of story telling for First Nations people and how Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park is a fascinating place, where First Nations people carved petroglyphs and pictographs into the rock. In Wellness:  Students learned about the 4 different zones of regulation and how we can group together feelings to make it easier to understand, talk about and regulate them.  Our Kindergarten buddies ...
