At School:

In Literacy: Students were asked to share their favorite school subject and wrote an opinion paragraph explaining their choice and reasoning. They learned how to organize their paragraphs and include detailed examples to back up and support their ideas. 

In Word Work: We focused on words that have suffix -ent and -ant. Also, we discussed the meaning of exact and near synonyms and analyzed texts to find examples of each.

In Math: We started a new unit on Measurement. Students will learn how to interpret and express Area of shapes. 

In Social Studies: After learning about the cultural significance of story robes to First Nations people, students designed and created their own. They will share their story with the class next week!

On Tuesday, March 18th the AstroDome Planetarium will be at our school! There was a note sent home today with your child with more information.

Online Parent/Teacher Conferences

With labour action by CUPE Local 40 members limiting access to CBE schools after hours, the decision has been made to move March Parent/Teacher Conferences online.

Conferences will take place on Thursday March 20 and Friday March 21.

On Saturday March 15 at 8:00am, please go to your CBE Account to book your conferences. Bookings will close on Thursday March 20 at 2:00pm.

You will receive an email confirming your date and time and providing a Microsoft Teams link for your online conferences.


Usborne Book Fair

You're Invited to the Usborne Book Fair!

This is an order-only event where students can explore a selection of Usborne books available at the event, with many more titles offered online. Students will have the opportunity to view the books on Tuesday,  March 18th and will be able to place orders on Thursday, March 20th during the school day.

Orders must be paid in advance.

You can order online between March 14th and March 21st until 2pm. If you order online, please select “ship to host” to avoid shipping costs and the orders will be shipped directly to the school. If you prefer to have it shipped to your home directly, there will be shipping costs. You will receive your order in 2-3 weeks. I would love to start by introducing myself. I’m Carolyn Wickenheiser and I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to be your child’s teacher for the rest of the school year. Hi families,  We had Mr. Mike Hebenton, our acting principal, read a story to our class on World Read Aloud Day (Wednesday). The students were so respectful and welcoming that he wanted to come back in and read Jumanji to them on Thursday! At School: In Math:  This week we shifted from multiplying 3-digit by 1-digit numbers to dividing them! Students were taught the Area Model Strategy. It was a challenge for some students as there are quite a few steps to remember. Here are the steps and an example in case you would like to work on this strategy at home. At School: In Literacy:  We wrote a paragraph about our favorite thing! Students were encouraged to use an If..Then, Even..though, Since or When topic sentence, 3 details to support their topic sentence, and a strong concluding sentence like we discussed.  In Math: Students were given a mid-point assessment on multiplication and division. They were given this assessment back on Wednesday to take home. There is still time to practice before our unit test in March. A huge thank you to families who are working on basic multiplication facts at home! While students have multiplication charts as tools in their desks from the fall, the expectation is to know multiplication facts automatically without using the multiplication chart. Please continue to work with your child on multiplication basic facts whenever possible and we will continue to work on them in school as well.
