 At School:

We went on a Community Walk to the park with our buddies! 


In Math: We continued practicing how to compare and order decimal numbers by identifying their correct position on a number line. Students also played a game called Decimal War, where they practiced recognizing the largest decimal number and reading each number aloud. For example, "three and sixty-five hundredths is greater than three and twenty-three hundredths."




In Literacy: Students began exploring how to compare and contrast two topics by using a Venn diagram to sort and organize what they learned from a non-fiction text. They practiced this skill by comparing football and basketball, as well as police officers and firefighters. We also wrapped up our Pip narratives and spent time revising and editing our work. Lastly, students read chapter 7 of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. As they read, they stopped periodically to write their thoughts and reflect on new information about the characters and events.

In Social Studies: We continued learning about of the fur-trade by discussing what life was like for the voyageurs and the many challenges they faced along their journeys.


Looking Forward:

We are collecting empty large Pringle cans for an upcoming Science project. If you have any, please send them to school with your child. Thank you for your help! 

Word work words for next week are: microchip, microgram, microscope, microwave, microphone, sauce, pause, vault, cause, launch, auction, autumn, august, fault, applause, taunt, daughter, sausage, taught, laundry

On Monday, your child will be coming home with a form for our Mckenzie Highlands Tour. Please send back and return Tuesday, April 29th. I sincerely apologize for not sending it home over the weekend.

Please make sure to send a morning snack with your child on Fun Lunch Days.

I would love to start by introducing myself. I’m Carolyn Wickenheiser and I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to be your child’s teacher for the rest of the school year. Hi families,  We had Mr. Mike Hebenton, our acting principal, read a story to our class on World Read Aloud Day (Wednesday). The students were so respectful and welcoming that he wanted to come back in and read Jumanji to them on Thursday! At School: In Math:  This week we shifted from multiplying 3-digit by 1-digit numbers to dividing them! Students were taught the Area Model Strategy. It was a challenge for some students as there are quite a few steps to remember. Here are the steps and an example in case you would like to work on this strategy at home. At School: In Literacy:  We wrote a paragraph about our favorite thing! Students were encouraged to use an If..Then, Even..though, Since or When topic sentence, 3 details to support their topic sentence, and a strong concluding sentence like we discussed.  In Math: Students were given a mid-point assessment on multiplication and division. They were given this assessment back on Wednesday to take home. There is still time to practice before our unit test in March. A huge thank you to families who are working on basic multiplication facts at home! While students have multiplication charts as tools in their desks from the fall, the expectation is to know multiplication facts automatically without using the multiplication chart. Please continue to work with your child on multiplication basic facts whenever possible and we will continue to work on them in school as well.
