September 22-26

At School:

It was a busy week filled with practice and preparation for our Orange Shirt Day Assembly. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend today!

We learned about long vowels and digraphs, and practiced writing the cursive letter “q.” We also read a story inspired by Orange Shirt Day called Shi-shi-etko, which follows a young girl preparing to go to residential school by collecting special items for her memory bag to help her remember home. We brainstormed what we would include if we made our own memory bags, and the students completed an activity in their visual journals based on this idea.

We practiced figuring out how many hours have passed between a start time and an end time. We also learned how to count minutes by skip counting by fives, and practiced telling time on a clock with a partner.

Messages from School:

Inline Skating in the Gym!
We're excited to let you know that Alien Inline Skating will be starting a residency in our gymnasium for Grades 3, 4 and EES students starting Wednesday, October 1st.  This is a fantastic opportunity for students to build confidence, coordination, and have a ton of fun while learning to inline skate.
A few important notes for skating days:
  • Students are encouraged to bring a CSA-approved helmet (bike helmets are best).  I will post the schedule so you know what days to bring in helmets.
  • Please do not send full-face helmets, football helmets, or hockey helmets.
  • If your child does not have a helmet, one will be provided for them.

Since the gym will be used for skating, all PE classes will continue to be held outdoors next week, weather permitting. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather and ready to move!

Demographic Verification Forms

A number of families still need to complete their Demographic Verification Forms on their CBE Account.

It is a legal requirement from Alberta Education for funding purposes for every family to complete these forms.

For technical support in completing your online forms, please click on this link for more information.

Orange Shirt Day

Tuesday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. All CBE schools will be closed.

Alien In-Line Volunteers Needed

Alien In-Line skating is back this year! This is for students in grades 3 & 4 as well as EES classes. We need Grade 3 and 4 parents to help students with sizing, getting their skates and safety equipment on and off, and helping struggling skaters.

Mr. V is looking for 1 - 2 volunteers for each time slot. There are two availabilities per slot in the event a parent can only stay for the time their child is skating, but we welcome parents to stay for the full time or sign up for multiple slots. Attached is a tentative class schedule so volunteers are aware of their child’s skate time.
