November 24-29
At School:
In Literacy: We continued reading Fantastic Mr. Fox and explored two more chapters. Students drew a picture and wrote a few sentences to show their understanding of what happened in the story. We also learned about three-letter blends and the sounds they make in words (such as scr, str, spr, spl, shr, squ, and thr). In writing, we worked on expanding simple sentences by adding adjectives, adverbs, and extra details to make our ideas more clear and interesting.
In Math: We practiced reading and writing number words for numbers from 0 to 100 000. Students also compared numbers using base-ten blocks and place value strategies to determine which number was greater.
In Science: We explored the three main forces that change Earth’s surface over time—wind, water, and ice. We also learned about erosion and how it helped shape the Alberta Badlands and the Grand Canyon.
In Social Studies: We learned about the wildlife found in Alberta’s different physical regions. Students completed a cut-and-paste activity to sort animals into the correct regions and then worked with a partner to answer questions.

Food Support
Did you know that the Breakfast Club of Canada has shared research demonstrating that 40% of Alberta’s children experience food insecurity? This means that 4 out of 10 children do not have access to food when they are hungry.
If your family is experiencing challenges with providing food for your children you can find help at Brown Bagging Calgary.
Complete this form for support and they can deliver lunches to McKenzie Towne School for your children. https://go.bb4ck.org/l/858913/2024-01-15/38fdbw You can also find out more information on their website https://bb4ck.org/
